Going to Vancouver is like going to a mini trip of Monaco

...sort of...

Mini trip for me, since a straight drive from Vancouver to Seattle is less than 140 miles. YMMV.

What I am really talking about is the car scene in Vancouver. It's just so much heavy on exoctic side. I don't want to make assumption but I have a few guess-answer for that. However, I am not here to speculate, I am just an average Joe putting a Merc picture on Oppo and express my lust over cars.

How would you like to wake up to this?

Kinja'd!!!

I stayed at the hotel across from this car, and while my little family stroll to Tim Horton, I had to stop to snap a quick picture.

On this trip I also see Ferrari 360 (not Doug's...or is it?), DB9, Porsche Panamera Turbo S, Honda NSX, too many E90 M3, too many Merc C63.

Oh, and population of Bentley in Vancouver is arguably bigger than Tesla's in Seattle.

No Lambo this trip, I have seen some, probably not shopping on a Boxing day.

Fun times.

Oh hey there. Not every day you see a V12 R129 without the Sport package.

SL600? Looks like a 1998+ car too by the look of those mirrors. No sport bumpers, and ugly wheels, but not bad. Good that it's being driven.

Any pictures of the back?

Yuuuup. I grew up in Vancouver, then spent 9 years living out in Ontario. When I am back I am always amazed at the quality of the cars.

I know, right? I wonder how much that platform add-on is gonna cost me.

No and I should have snapped one! the Back says Brabus which I knew was one of the tuning company of Merc. It's a debadge one so I don't know for sure.

Quick google shows this as the same wheel set.

Oh snap, if that's a Brabus, that thing is a special special car.

If it truly is a real Brabus R129 SL600, then it likely has a MASSIVE V12 under the hood, like, 6.9 to 7.3L. There are literally a handful of cars that were built like that, so it would be one of less than 100 total cars built.

I have a 97 SL600 Sport, which was the top of the line model the US got at the time. The larger V12 engines did not come here at all. There's a guy down in texas who claims to have an SL74, which is an "unofficial" model, which was just bored out after the fact, it wasn't even a Mercedes offering, he had to send it out to have that work done himself. The SL73 is the biggest "factory" option, where the car was sent out before delivery, and made into the monster it became. The engine from the SL73 was the same one the original Zonda C16 received, the only modifications at first were to the exhaust, eventually seeing a complete overhaul, so the Zondas built after 2000 (roughly) have totally different motors. In that time, it was all variants of the Mercedes M120 V12 engine. Quite the beast.

You've certainly had a chance to see a very real, very special unicorn if it really us a Brabus car.

In the off chance that the owner just bought the Brabus badge and stuck it on, it's a regular SL600 with the M120 V12, good for something like 389HP. Still a very fun car, and good to see out and about in the winter. My car does not get driven unless it absolutely has to be in the winters. It's just too special to me, and drivers around here are crazy.

Yup, 7.3 on the back too. Thanks for your information, I knew of Brabus but never realized the context. Now this crappy cellphone picture is one good memory to treasure.

I don't know why, but I can't find the youtube version anymore. Loads super slow for me, but that's the Top Gear quick review of it.

Jalopnik has mentioned the car a couple of times , but very very rarely , and most of the pictures repeat because there are so few in the wild.

I can tell you the tuned SL600 Sport is nothing to shake a stick at, even with 18 years and nearly 100k on it. The SL73 takes that and turns it well past 11.
